I am an Alien

Poem by Theresa Matheson, May 1997

My thoughts are cold

I am numb

My body is warm

I am dumb

Why do I feel

so dead inside

I am an Alien

and I cannot hide

This lifeless being

has no spirit

A mutant light

Only shadows within it

My words are there

Pensive and frosty

My odium moment

And my discovery is costly

What must I do

to rid my reflection

The person I see

has lost her affection

Take off my coat

and feel the extreme

If I die outside

I have broken the seams.
